Deploying PoliteMail via InTune

Applies To:   □ New PoliteMail    ■ Legacy PoliteMail

Version:  ■ 4.9+   ■ 5.0+

To deploy PoliteMail via Intune, two steps must be performed, one by PoliteMail, and the other by you.

  1. PoliteMail will create needed install and uninstall CMD scripts, and create the Intune package in the appropriate needed format (a .intunewin file). PoliteMail will then send the package file to you, with the version number.
  1. You will add PoliteMail to the Intune portal to deploy the application using the instructions provided in this Guide.

What is Intune?

Microsoft Intune Icon & Logo | Dashboard Icons & Logos Microsoft Intune is a cloud-based endpoint management solution. It manages user access and simplifies app & device management across your many devices, including mobile devices, desktop computers, and virtual endpoints.

Intune makes it easy to manage users and devices, as well as simplify application deployment and management. You can find out more about Intune here.

Preparation

Before you begin the process, you will need to perform the following steps:

  1. It is recommended to create a new folder (name it ‘Intune’) with two subfolders (name them ‘Input’ and ‘Output’). The Intune folder will contain the Intune Prep Tool, and the Input folder will contain your PoliteMail Client executable as well as your install and uninstall .cmd files.
  1. Creating these folders is optional but will help keep you organized.
  1. Download and install the Intune Prep Tool to the parent folder you created.
  1. You can learn more about using the Prep Tool and preparing content for upload via Microsoft documentation here.
  1. The actual file name is IntuneWinAppUtil.exe, and is downloaded via GitHub.

Creating the Needed Files (PoliteMail)

This step is done by PoliteMail for you.

In order to create the Intune package for deployment, PoliteMail will place the .cmd for installation, the .cmd file for uninstallation, and the PoliteMail Client.exe file in the Intune Prep Tool Input folder.

PoliteMail will then run the Intune Prep Tool to create the finished Intune package file, which will be sent to you.

Deploying PoliteMail via Intune

This step is done by you.

To deploy PoliteMail via Intune, you should have received the PoliteMail package file (in a .intunewin format) and the version number.

Uploading and deploying the PoliteMail package via Intune is done via the EndPoint Manager at https://endpoint.microsoft.com. This is available to Intune admins (those who have deployed applications before) only.

  1. Click on 'Apps' from the left panel.  The Apps window will display.
    1. When you click on 'All Apps', PoliteMail will appear in the app list if it has already been deployed.
  2. From All Apps, click 'Add'.  A side panel appears.
    1. Click the drop-down to select an app type and scroll to select 'Windows App (Win32).
  3. Click Select.  The panel will close and the 'Add App' window will display.
